The Sapphire

The stone is a 0.80 carat natural blue sapphire, cut as a 6 × 5 mm oval. Its blue is rich and steady in daylight. Ovals show colour evenly from edge to centre.

Sapphire rates 9 on the Mohs scale, so it resists daily scratches. The GIA's sapphire guide explains how blue sapphire is graded.

A Filigree Sapphire Pendant

Filigree is gold drawn into fine wire and shaped into open patterns. It keeps the piece light at 1.11 grams. This filigree sapphire pendant feels like an heirloom from day one.

A Vintage Sapphire Necklace Look

Diamonds totalling 0.05 carats sit within the filigree. At 12 × 15 mm, the oval sapphire pendant is small enough for every day. On a fine chain, it gives a vintage sapphire necklace look.

A September Birthstone Gift

Sapphire is the birthstone for September. It is also the gem for 45th anniversaries.

Care

Clean your oval sapphire pendant with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Dry it well so water does not sit in the filigree.
