Tsavorite is a green garnet found in East Africa, named after Kenya's Tsavo region. Its green is bright and grassy, often compared to emerald. This tsavorite weighs 0.40 carats.
Its colour comes from traces of vanadium and chromium, the same elements behind emerald's green. The gem was first described in the late 1960s.
