The Tsavorite

Tsavorite is a green garnet found in East Africa, named after Kenya's Tsavo region. Its green is bright and grassy, often compared to emerald. This tsavorite weighs 0.40 carats.

Its colour comes from traces of vanadium and chromium, the same elements behind emerald's green. The gem was first described in the late 1960s.

The GIA explains how tsavorite differs from demantoid, the other green garnet. Tsavorite is rarely treated, which collectors value.

A Marquise Diamond Charm

The marquise is a pointed oval that looks longer than its weight suggests. Here a 0.10 carat marquise diamond sits beside the green. This marquise diamond charm reads elegant and fine.

A Green Gemstone Necklace Charm

At 10 × 16 mm and under one gram, it is made for daily wear. On a fine chain, the tsavorite charm becomes a green gemstone necklace that layers easily.

A January Birthstone Gift

Garnet is the birthstone for January. Green tsavorite makes a tsavorite charm a surprising January gift.
